Exhibition of sculpture by Eiko Shintani
"a song in praise of Human being"

Eiko Shintani was born in Kobe into a family of artists. Indeed, her father, her brother and her sister were also sculptors. After getting her diploma at the Kyoto City University of Art, she left Japan and traveled to America, in Germany and in Italy.
In 1995, in the Kobe Earthquake, she lost her family and she herself got heavily injured in the collapse of her house.
The present exhibition displayed the works
that she salvaged from the debris.
Eiko Shintani used iron, glass, wood and rock for making her works which it’s a very particular views and innovative art.
This exhibition is based on the theme of “love of people” and “love of life”
She received two distinctions for her works: the Kobe City cultural encouragement prize in 1977 and the Hyogo prefecture cultural prize in 2011.

This exhibition is organized by the welfare Promotion Association of Kobe. 12 artistes with disabilities presents 60 works.

Atsuhiko Misawa is now very renowned in the field of sculpture.
His exhibition Animals is well-known in all japan and overseas and it is now coming to Asago!
The exhibition “Animals at Asago” presents life-size animals made from
Atsuhiko Misawa has a deep interest in the relation between human and animal, and this boundary between this two “worlds”.
The artist let on purpose marks of chisel on the sculpture and paint it with oil colors.
